Besides his role as a director of an Oscar nominated film, Thomas Carlyle Ford “Tom” is a well renowned American fashion designer, celebrated for quite a number of achievements. He shot to fame when he saw Gucci experience a major turnaround, for the better. He is also celebrated for creating the Tom Ford label. In his early life, Tom had always preferred television commercial acting. Records have it that there is one particular time that he was featured simultaneously in twelve national advertising campaigns.

Ford later joined The New School where he commenced his study of interior architecture. Just before his last year at The New School, he spent one and a half years in Paris. He worked as an intern at a press office. It is here that he realized he had a soft spot for fashion. His last year at The New School was spent studying fashion.

Ford joined Gucci, Italy, where his role was fast expanding. With just six months, he was already designing menswear and followed it with shoes. He also saw the sales of Gucci rise by almost 90%. At the time Ford was leaving Gucci, the almost bankrupt company was valued at $10 billion.
